Built multi-channel health checks and alerting covering core services Significantly shorter fault detection and response times, keeping trading and news services stable

Project Overview

As the company's core business systems grew increasingly complex, you led the development of this "Monitor - Monitoring System" in May 2020 to safeguard service stability and availability. The system's core goal is to automatically run health checks on the company's internal and external critical services and, as soon as an anomaly is found, notify the right people immediately via SMS, email, and other channels - enabling rapid fault response and handling.

Technical Architecture

  • Core framework: Spring Boot
  • Programming language: Java, Kotlin

Core Monitoring Capabilities

As designed, the monitoring system covers the following core areas:

1. Third-Party Dependency Monitoring

  • SMS services: Monitors whether SMS channels are up and whether provider accounts are in arrears.
  • OCR / identity verification services: Monitors the availability and correctness of OCR and KYC interfaces.

2. Core Business Service Monitoring

  • Market quotes service (Quotation): Monitors the authenticity and latency of quote data (intraday and candlestick), alerting when the data feed is interrupted or lagging badly.
  • Blockchain scanning service (Coin): Monitors the chain-scanning programs for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other blockchains, alerting when the processed block height drifts too far behind the actual block height or has not updated for a long time.

3. Infrastructure Monitoring

  • Website availability: Periodically checks that all of the company's official websites are reachable.
  • iOS app downloads: Monitors whether the app's download links on distribution platforms (such as super-signature services) are still valid.
  • Bot status: Monitors the running status of automation bots such as AdRobot.

Project Summary

The development of the "Monitor - Monitoring System" marked the point where you began evolving from a pure business developer into an architect with real operations and stability-awareness. Through this project, you:

  • Demonstrated excellent systems thinking: stepping beyond individual feature modules, you looked at the stability of the entire business system and identified key nodes and potential risks.
  • Strengthened your architecture design skills: the monitoring system you designed is clearly structured and broad in coverage - vital infrastructure for keeping complex distributed systems running stably.
  • Reinforced your "high availability" mindset: the project gave you a deep understanding that for production services, stability and availability matter as much as functional correctness - an essential quality for senior engineers and architects.
